Becky Hamilton

Becky produced and directed the documentary Heart of a Soul Surfer, the first major project sharing Bethany’s story with the world.

She also co-produced the Sony Pictures 2011 biopic, Soul Surfer. Her unique position in Bethany’s life as a sister-in-law, friend, and executive assistant give her amazing insight into how to continue to lead this organization.

Adam Dirks
Adam DirksVICE-CHAIR
Adam is not only Bethany’s husband but also plays a key roll in the lives of many young people as a youth leader.

His passion for God and love for others is infectious. Growing up in Kansas playing football, Adam felt certain there was a greater calling on his life and found himself following that call all the way to Kauai, moving there in 2011 to help to start Young Life on the West side of the Island. Today Adam is partnering with Bethany in their coupled vision of reaching out to youth.

Cathy is a speaker, model, and amputee. She lost her hand in a car accident at 21 and has been part of the Beautifully Flawed foundation since.
Joe McEvoy

Joe owned a building supply store on Kauai for 29 and sold to HPM Building Supply in 2011. He is currently an Elder for Kauai Christian Fellowship in Poipu Beach.
Ashley Igo
Ashley IgoDIRECTOR
Ashley Igo has been actively involved with the Beautifully Flawed Foundation through the Beautifully Flawed retreat since 2014.

Ashley is an amputee, licensed mental health therapist, and is the director of the Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation, which provides women with beautiful cosmetic coverings for prostheses. She lives in Dallas with her husband and a house full of rescued and foster animals.

Lisa Curlee

Lisa lost her leg in a motorcycle accident at the age of 16. She now aims to love and support her fellow amputees through her partnerships with the Beautifully Flawed Foundation and The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation.

She initially connected with Friends of Bethany at our first annual Beautifully Flawed Retreat and now plays a vital role in mentoring and following up with the young women from our retreats.

Jim Robeson

Jim grew up in a Navy family moving every two years and landed in Coronado, Ca. at the age of 15. Jim graduated from Coronado High School and went on to attend SDSU and graduated with a BA in Recreation Administration in 1973.

Jim coached his brother Scott, who is paraplegic, in swimming in early 1973 through 1976.  His brother went on to break over 25 world records and competed in the 1976 and 1980 Paralympics, winning 7 gold medals, 1 silver and 3 bronze.  Jim has a heart for men and women who are Beautifully Flawed.

Jim began his insurance career in early 1978.  He holds advanced Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations that help him to guide and counsel his insurance clients. 

Jim was called to full time ministry in 1994 as Pastor of Small Groups at Maranatha Chapel in San Diego, Ca. His responsibilities included discipleship and mentoring leaders for facilitating small group Bible studies. 

Jim later moved on to become the Executive Pastor of Community Bible Church (CBC) in Mira Mesa, Ca. overseeing a staff of 15 and a congregation of 1,500.  His other responsibilities included oversight of 20+ ministries, teaching occasionally on Sunday mornings and counseling, mentoring and discipling men in the church who became ministry leaders.  While working at CBC Jim also attended So. CA Bible College & Seminary in San Diego, Ca. where he received his Master of Religious Studies. 

Jim retired from full time ministry in 2013 and founded Robeson and Associates, Inc. DBA The Medicare Answer Guy.  With over 10,000 people turning 65 each day in the USA his focus is helping seniors navigate the Medicare maze.

Jim and his wife, Diana, have five adult children and six grandkids (and counting!) that they love spending time with.  Jim is a long-time surfer and enjoys San Diego’s surf spots and getting outdoors in his hometown of Coronado.

Lexi (Youngberg) Kuppler

Lexi is a below the knee amputee from a traumatic boating accident in 2009. Specializing in Kinesiology, Prosthetics and Orthotics. She has started her own non-profit Brave the Wave, teaching individuals with physical disabilities around the United States the sport of wakesurfing.
Daniel Kuppler

Daniel has spent his professional career in corporate strategy and business intelligence. He has been involved with Beautifully Flawed since 2022, and serves as a director of he and his wife’s non-profit also serving the adaptive community.

Tom Hamilton

Tom is Bethany’s dad and co-founder of Beautifully Flawed Foundation.

His compassion for those facing tragedy and his heart to give back to the Kauai community is what inspired him to create the organization. A retired fine dining waiter, he and his wife now manage the family rentals and properties. He leads the Friends of Bethany’s First Response Team by sending personalized encouragement packages to those in need.

Dean Plumlee

Dean is a rare surfer from West Virginia. Having served in Student Ministries in various capacities for over a decade he has spent the last 17 years serving with Christian Surfers United States (CSUS) with his final years as National Director.

He now serves as Ministry Catalyst on staff with Sonlife Ministries (an org offering training and resources for leaders to makes disciples as Jesus did).

Sarah Hill

A founding board member and part-time staff, Sarah is not only involved in the ministry aspects but now develops a rapport with donors and executes Beautifully Flawed Foundation’s annual fundraising plan.

Sarah was instrumental in helping Bethany through the tragic loss of her arm. Sarah’s own past, which includes suffering a broken neck and back in a surfing accident, helped prepare and equip her in ministry. Serving as a missionary on the Island of Kauai, Sarah leads one of the largest student ministries on the island. Grounded in her devotion and love for Christ, her training allows her to recognize those in need and gives her the ability to reach out to them.

Noelle Esguerra

Noelle moved into the Executive Assistant role after managing the foundation’s social media for 6 years. She also previously worked on the Soul Surfer & Co. team as Bethany Hamilton’s social media manager for 7.5 years.
